We often get asked by people “What is this all about?” and we respond with something like “We are trying to motivate people to exercise regularly and live healthy lives”. This is rather difficult for them to understand because nobody has every seen or heard of a motivational healthy living social network business, so they continue to ask things like “Are you personal trainers?” or “Is rBods a Fitness Center being built nearby?” or simply “I don’t get it”. Simply stated the answer is “The entire current rBods presence is an experimental prototype; A learning environment for us and a partial demonstration for you and investors of a future Healthy Living Motivational Platform consisting of both virtual and real components”
Entrepreneurs by definition are always trying to create something that doesn’t exist today. They are forced to use comparisons to already accepted products or services; pointing out their flaws or inefficiencies; and then demonstrating how the new product is superior to the old (differentiation). Many entrepreneurs are able to build working prototypes of their products or services so that they can demonstrate its qualities to investors. Unfortunately, that’s not possible with rBods. The rBods vision, is a solution to America’s largest problem: physically, financially, and emotionally; the health of its people! rBods wants to create
a platform designed to educate and motivate Americans to live active, healthy lives; thereby solving a portion of this daunting problem one person at a time! Many people think that this is like chipping away at an ice berg with a ice pick, but we believe that it is more like a snow flake causing an avalanche. We cannot even begin to build a working prototype…but we can use altered current reality to suggest a vision that others may grasp.
Everything we are working on : This website, the rBods Mobile Stage, and the Exercising Mannequins are all designed as very simplified prototypes of tools that are part of an extremely complex business model. They are in no way as sophisticated as the tools that we envision. For instance, this website represents a very, very economical attempt for us to gain experience in the world of social networks and simultaneously explain pieces of the business model through blogs, pictures and videos. The software applications that we have in mind for the future rBods motivational website platform will take millions of dollars to develop. There is simply no way to represent them here; but they will produce the sizzle that will encourage people to join and participate in a healthy living environment. The rBods Mobile Stage represents the “bricks and mortar” (physical) element of our business plan that we believe is essential to its success. We plan on using rBods Mobile Stages to promote exercise publicly. Often, we will invite local activity centers (Fitness Centers, Gyms, Yoga, martial arts, etc.) and schools to do demonstrations in public venues. We also plan on using the rBods Mobile Stages to promote and participate at non-profit events such as walks, 5ks, and the like. (ie American Heart Association Start Heart Walk). We envision rBods Mobile Stage teams made up of personal trainers and nutritionists that educate the public about healthy living in cooperation with, and on the grounds of, big-box store sponsors. Further, the Exercising Mannequins are our communication tools that appeal to children as well as the child within every adult. We plan on using enhanced Exercising Mannequins on specially designed rBods Mobile Stages for marketing purposes and within partner stores to remind people to exercise and eat healthy. We also plan on visiting schools and playgrounds to imprint upon our children the value of regular exercise and good eating habits. In addition, we are testing different ideas that promote life long healthy behavior such as the rBods 150 for 2010 American Challenge, which we feel certain could be a central repetitious campaign to raise awareness and participation of parents and grandparents becoming ‘healthy mentors’ for our children. We believe the campaign could easily spread to the capitol of every state in the nation and on to the White House every New Year until it is a tradition representing a new American culture.
The last thing that everyone asks is “How are you going to make money if the site is completely free to members”. The answer is “In the same manner that Facebook makes money: advertising and search; but most uniquely by BRANDING the rBods name.” You see rBods is an L3C, a hybrid between a non-profit and a for-profit, with a primary mission of creating public good. Millions of people would benefit personally from participating in the rBods platform. We believe that they would loyally purchase products that contained the licensed rBods name, everything from body lotion to exercise machines; sportswear to volleyballs…in essence anything representing activities or taking care of our bodies. rBods would not produce any product itself but would receive a royalty for every sale. The best part is that the vast majority of those monies will be turned into public good instead of profits! Of course, this is NOT an appealing plan to venture capitalists who are primarily interested in profits. That is why we are looking for capitalization from another source…large non-profit foundations with social missions that would benefit from the rBods platform.
