Let's Exercise
rBods (our bodies) seeking large non-profit investor/s
Cathy and I have invested a lot of time and money into developing a far reaching L3C business plan that creates a catalyst for a new and disruptive 21st century “primary” health care system that focuses on prevention instead of reactive medicine, motivation and mentoring in lieu of passive acceptance of chronic diseases, and positive associations with exercise and good nutrition instead of commercialized positive associations with sedentary life styles and poor nutrition, and taking personal responsibility for changing America’s future in lieu of dependence on the government for change.
This rBods website, the rBods Mobile Stage and the Exercising Mannequins have helped us learn more about the front and back ends of Social Networks, the person-on-the-street’s view of our healthcare system and their struggle finding motivation or partners to help them change their behaviors, non-profit focus on raising awareness and money but not creating an effective continuous national lifestyle change initiative, how entertainment creates an easier environment to address difficult issues such as obesity when engaged in conversation with those who suffer from it’s impact on their lives…to name a few.
Now, it is time for us to seek a large non-profit investor who has a mission to help prevent disease amongst Americans thereby reducing unnecessary human suffering and relieving the financial drain due to out-of-control healthcare costs. We are looking for a multimillion dollar investment to create this shared dream.

Say what? “You can’t exercise on the California State Capitol’s grounds!”
As you are probably aware, we are challenging Americans to make New Year’s Resolutions to Exercise for 150 minutes per week throughout 2010. We are traveling around Northern California with a Mobile Stage exercising from time to time along with our Exercising Mannequins on top, which is our way of connecting with children (and the child within each adult). Our plan is to toss a symbolic couch off the stage at the stroke of midnight and then bring in the New Year on a healthy note by exercising for the first 30 minutes of 2010. Do to the variable physical ability of the participants; we planned on walking ‘briskly’ around the State Capitol at everyone’s own pace.
This morning I talked with the Capitol Permit Officer about the status of our New Year’s Permit. (I must mention here that he was extremely courteous and professional and just following the letter of the law). I learned that it has been approved with the following exceptions:
- No vehicle will be allowed.
- No one is allowed to exercise on the Capitol grounds!
I could hardly believe my ears!
I understand that the terrorist’s attacks changed everything and that security must be tight around government buildings. But when the vehicle is a fundamental part of the event shouldn’t there be an exception? Certainly they could sweep the vehicle inside and out to determine that it doesn’t present a threat! It turns out that, from time to time, the governor does make exceptions to this rule; normally when he is attending an event that requires a vehicle. So, now we are asking for the governor’s permission.
If we make it through that loop, look at the second one! If we exercise, even walking, we will be breaking the law! Now that is a joke! With laws like that it is little wonder our nation is in such frail health!
The kind officer said that we could walk on the city sidewalk but not on the State Grounds! So, even if we can get the vehicle into the area of the West Steps we have a new dilemma. How do we have people mass exit or re-enter the area without walking? I’m not sure if it would be illegal if we all crawled or not!
Post Script:
Well, that does it!
I just got off the phone with the Governor’s office, Constituent Affairs Director Luis Portillo to be precise. I was told that the Governor does not get involved with permits.
So I guess this is the official end of our rBods 150 for 2010 American Challenge. We will try again next year if we can get financial backing. I believe that Mr. Schwarzenegger, who himself is an exercise icon, could easily be convinced that the State of California would benefit dramatically if slowly a movement towards regular exercise grew within its populace. I also believe that the California legislature would support a bill to allow people to exercise at an event on the California State Capitol grounds, perhaps in a designated area.
Cathy and I have enjoyed an overwhelming amount of support from the people on the streets regarding adults becoming ‘healthy mentors’ to our kids. We have no doubt that, over time, we can organize and build a following that will help create new traditions and modify some of the old to create an environment that focuses more of America’s energy on personal health and benefits to the common good.
